Introduction

In 1996, RRFB Nova Scotia developed ROCAPS 2000™ to administer Nova Scotia’s Deposit-Refund Program for Beverage Containers.ROCAPS 2000™ enabled the RRFB to issue payments to vendors that collect, handle and process recyclables.

Today, ROCAPS 2000™ is more than a tool to manage the beverage container system. ROCAPS 2000™ now handles three programs administered by RRFB Nova Scotia (beverage, tires and paint), with the capacity to electronically process more than one million field transactions and over 15,000 payments to vendors annually!

Since 1996, the RRFB has identified trends in field operations and has enhanced the functionality of ROCAPS 2000™ to expand the system’s efficiency, reporting capability and data integrity.

ROCAPS 2000™ has proven to be a unique and powerful tool for administering waste management strategies and has great potential for other applications.
