Products EXEMPT from the Deposit-Refund Program
Examples of products exempt from the program include:
- Fluid milk and milk products as defined under the Nova Scotia Dairy Industry Act including chocolate and flavoured milk, cream, blend, whipping cream, eggnog, buttermilk, yogurt drinks, and milk shakes;
- Soya beverage products including Natural Balanced, Natur-a Soy and So Good soya milk;
- Rice beverage products including: Pacific Rice, Rice Dream, Ricesense, Eden Blend Rice and Soy, Natura Rice Milk, and Organic YU Basmati Rice
- Meal replacement beverages including: Boost, Ensure, Equate, Life Replenish, President's Choice Nutri-Total, President's Choice Ultra Shake, Rexall, Truly Health, Truly Health Nutritional Shake, and WellQuest
- Formulated liquid diets including Pediasure, Pediasure Plus, Enfagrow, Glucerna and Resource Standard, Resource Plus, Resource 2.0, Resource Diabetic and Resource and Just for Kids products;
- Foods for very low energy diets which are available by prescription through hospitals and pharmacies;
- Thickened juices including Resource products;
- All baby formulas;
- All concentrates;
- All non-alcoholic beverages in containers 5-litres or greater;
- All "Return for Refund" labelled beverage containers purchased outside of Nova Scotia.

Cardboard and Newspapers
Recycle old corrugated cardboard, boxboard* (cereal boxes), office paper and newspapers through your municipal recycling programs. Check with your local municipality for details. Some Enviro-Depots also accept old corrugated cardboard and newspapers.
* Please note that in Halifax Regional Municipality, boxboard should be composted in your green cart.
