Nova Scotia Recycles Contest

Who, What, When and How?

The Nova Scotia Recycles Contest is an opportunity to take action and promote waste reduction in your community. The purpose of the contest is to encourage participation in recycling and composting programs, and to celebrate the ongoing role of Nova Scotia youth in making this province a recognized leader in waste reduction.

Open to students in grades primary to twelve, the contest is launched each fall and offers over $55,000 in cash and prizes!

The 10th Annual Nova Scotia Recycles Contest is Over for Another Year!

Feb 11, 2010 - On February 5th, the 10th Annual Nova Scotia Recycles Contest closed for another year. We would like to extend our thanks to the teachers and students who submitted the many wonderful entries for this year's contest - we've received over 9,200 submissions from 227 participating schools!

We will be judging the entries in the coming weeks and will announce the winners shortly. Winning students and schools will be recognized at one of seven regional celebration ceremonies taking place this spring. Please check back soon for samples of the winning artwork!

We look forward to your participation in the 11th Annual Nova Scotia Recycles Contest, which will be launched at the beginning of next school year. Until then, keep up the good work Waste Warriors!

Congratulations Early Bird Winners!

Jan 15, 2010 - RRFB Nova Scotia would like to extend our thanks to the teachers and students who submitted entries in time for the Early Bird draw. One winning class, from each of Nova Scotia's 7 solid waste management regions, will receive a prize package containing environmentally friendly items for both the teacher and students, as well as a $50 gift card towards classroom supplies.

10th Annual Nova Scotia Recycles Contest

Oct 19, 2009 - This year's contest challenges students to become a "Waste Warrior" and help Nova Scotia reach the provincial goal of reducing our solid waste from 450 KG to 300 KG/person/year by 2015.

Here are the contest details:

  • It's open to all Nova Scotia students in grades primary to twelve.
  • There are six contest categories, by grade level: P-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12 and 12.
  • Entries are accepted in English or French.
  • Winners and runners-up are chosen for every grade level in each of the seven waste management regions.
  • Winners and runners-up are invited to attend an awards celebration in their region.
